Good news! You might not need to keep records of your emails any more…

… because the Government is thinking about keeping all the records for you. Yes indeed, the BBC brings the news that the Home Office is thinking of introducing a national database containing details of every email sent in the UK.
Only a spoilsport would mention Big Brother, unnecessary surveillance, IT project failures, invasion of privacy, money being diverted from other more worth causes, risk of data being stolen, problems if there are any errors or any of that other stuff.

This is quite worrying, obviously there’s the oppurtunity to intercept emails that may have information on terrorist attacks, planned crimes and what not, but the question arises: How will they filter through every single email? It’s unlikely that such emails will use explicit vocabulary to descirbe their intentions, so most will slide through any barriers that are imposed, rendering the whole system useless..

A misleading article: the proposal is only to keep communications data, not content.

terrorist will not be stopped by the governement reading our e-mails. This is an invasion of privacy, designed to increase the amount of surveilance and data collected for each one of us. This data will be used to create criminals out of innocent people, to charge tax to those who say things that are curently not a crime.
rest assured, just like the “speeding” con, this will simply be used to make money and control the population.
