Guess what they’re publishing today…

To you and me, today is a big day, when the Prime Minister for the past decade announces his resignation. To the government spin-meisters, however, it’s just another good day to bury bad news.

It has just been announced in today’s parliamentary business that the ID cards cost report - which the government was legally obliged (I repeat, legally obliged) to publish 31 days ago - is to be published today.

We have come to expect cynical news management from the Labour government. Holding off an uncomfortable announcement until a busy day is just par for the course. But to actually resort to breaking the law in order to save face? That’s breaking new ground.

Typical Blair stunt! It is difficult to argue against the basic idea of citizens carrying a formal form of identification. What is so abhorrent to this scheme is that so many minions will have access to highly sensitive personal information. Also, this governments record shoes that it will SELL the information commercially to any organization. DVLA data & electoral rolls are just two examples.

The cost is prohibitive and any worthwhile crook will be able to counterfeit to his requirements.

History Shows that id papers are the
most efficient way of controlling people.
The majority of citizens of this country can forget civil liberties if these are introduced. ID was Hitlers biggest weapon against innocent people. Never would he have achieved what he did without them.

Been through CRB clearing recently? CRB is an executive agency ie effectively a private agency and is empowered to demand far-reaching information on us. when I last went through this process I took exception to be asked to provide details of my bank account and my mothers maiden name, the most common means of verifying identity when trying to access bank details. I rang up the CRB and asked them why they needed to know this. I was told it was to prevent paedophilia. I pointed out that paedophilia was hardly a girlie thing anyway and how did gaining access to my bank account prevent paedophilia and the CRB said well, what about Myra Hindley? Nice thought that if the government of the day had known Ian Bradys and Myra Hindley’ mothers’ maiden names there would have been no Moor Murders. Guess we can all now sleep safer in our beds.
